The Projekt Lazarus ensemble gave a concert on August 24th, 2019 at the international Festival Seviqc in Brežice. In the unique ambience of the Knights’ Hall of the castle in Brežice, in front of more than a hundred listeners, the Projekt Lazarus ensemble presented two different but remarkable Baroque composers – Bonaventura Beretta and Domenico Scarlatti.

Bonaventura Beretta was an Italian baroque composer and organist. He acted as a “maestro di capella” at the Church of St. Antonio in Padua, among others. He lived in the Franciscan monastery in Split for nine months, from June 1660 to March 1661, and during that time he was the chaplain at St. Doimo cathedral. His only known work is a collection of psalms for two to four voices called Clio sacra, “Davidicos psalmos vespertinis horis adscriptos notis musicis decantans”, published in Venice in 1635. At this concert, the Projekt Lazarus ensemble for the second time in modern history performed four-voice motets from this collection.

Domenico Scarlatti does not need to be particularly presented, and his masterpiece, the ten-voice Stabat Mater performed by Projekt Lazarus, was met with awe-inspiring audience at the Knights Hall. After the concert, in a convenient meeting with a music-professional listeners, only words of praise and support for the Croatian Music Center and the Projekt Lazarus could be heard, and the effort to revitalize and present the Croatian musical heritage as well as artistic achievements of the European classical music.
